About Me

So after attending my first culinary 111 class, Chef Randy announces to the class that we will each be responsible for keeping a food blog for the duration of this semester, and quite possibly the rest of my professional career. To that, I say, "Thank you!" Finally, I have a legitimate excuse to share with all of you nosy bastards what goes on in my life personally as well as what I eat everyday - just kidding... but no really.
I guess I should start off by introducing myself to you readers. Why hello there! My name is Thien Nguyen, and I am a 1st generation Vietnamese-American. Born and raised in Southern Louisiana, New Orleans to be more specific, food has encompassed almost every aspect of my life. Coming from a traditional Vietnamese family, every family/social gathering came with it a smorgasbord of food. Let's just say I ATE WELL! YOU KNOW WHAT I'M SAYING?!?!  *ahem (clears throat) As I was saying, food down here in the South isn't just a meal, but a way of life. For my aunt, this statement can be taken literally. With her restaurant in its eleventh year of business, Ba Mien will always hold a special place in my heart as it was my first ever job.
I hope by writing these blogs you'll be able to see my passion as a cook and desire to be in the hospitality and food service industry.
